I swear, I will do anything just not to conform to the norm. You know, when people expect me to do something, I'll do the exact opposite. Just the other day our lecturer told us this story in class about how they had Tupperware parties when she was younger. The Tupperware lady would come to you and say: "Hey, bake us a cake and make a pot of tea and invite all your friends." You think, "OK, this could be a nice get together. After all, I don't have time these days to see all my friends, and now I'll see them all at once!"
The day arrives and everyone is sitting, drinking tea, when The Tupperware Lady makes her move.. She gives each one of you an order form and a pencil. She goes through all the products and then she strikes. "So Susan, what are you going to order?" Obviously Susan is now obliged to say something in the form of, "Oh Catherine, I will definitely go for the 5-in-1 microwave bowl!" You know, conforming to the norm. I'll be waiting for her to ask me! I'll give her a piece of my mind, something in the form of, " You know Catherine, I haven't seen anything on this form that appeals to me. I don't peel my olives, so I won't need an olive peeler, thank you. Nee dankie, ek kyk net!
I hate it when people do stuff just so they can score brownie points with someone else? I mean how fucking lame is that. So pathetic.
You can debate this and say, if you constantly change to suit someone else's needs, you will constantly be surrounded by people that is not like you, people that contols you, and jeez, who lives like that?
